What is the civic exam?

The civic exam is a mandatory test since January 1, 2026 for any application for French naturalization, multi-year residence permit (CSP) or resident card (CR). It tests your knowledge of the values, history and institutions of the French Republic.

How many questions on the civic exam?

The exam has 40 multiple-choice questions to complete in 45 minutes. You need at least 32 correct answers (80%) to pass.

How much does the civic exam cost?
